Part Eight

The closer we got to Distoki the darker the sky got. This place is so gloomy. I don't think Angel can ever be from here. Being the only one in the group that didn't know how to fight, I didn't think it fair to the others to go out of their way to protect me. So for every resting spot we stopped at I had Mingi teach small bits of her fighting style.

We finally reached Distoki, it looks so gloomy and lots of broken down and dark houses. "Wow this almost looks like the haunted section of Sheling." Kannuki said staying close to Mingi for protection. I stayed near Ledia. Cecil hides behind Celes, which makes her giggle.

Mingi of course amazes me. I wish I could look as good as her 20 years form now. She of course looks like someone who plans on not having a family. Like someone who prefers to stay alone. To me it seems Mingi is a big role model for everyone else. She is of course the greatest warrior around. She's not afraid of death nor losing her sword, only because no one else can touch the sword, except for anyone greater than her.

We were about to enter the gate when a man holding a lite candle in his hand scared the crap out of us. I giggled when I saw Fenrir's fur standing on it's ends. I then looked the man over. He was very pale and wore a red over coat over a black turtle neck and black dress pants. He was fairly tall and his long hair twisted in the wind blowing through it.

"Welcome," he said in an accent, bowing. "My name is Draco. I own the castle at the end of this village."

We all looked at the castle. "Humph." Kannuki grunted. "Looks like something that belongs to Dracula." He then laughed.

Mingi then elbowed him. "That wasn't funny." Kannuki then grabbed where Mingi elbowed him then fell to the ground like a log.

Celes and Cecil both laughed. "Are you from the circus.?" Draco asked.

Angel turned to Draco. "I hope that wasn't a disgrace to us." She said putting her hands on her hips.

Mingi helped Kannuki up, and Draco shook his head. "No, ma'am. I mean no disgrace to you and the rest of you. Only it's not often we see kinds like you." Draco then stepped to the side. "Please com in. My people may look scarey and mean, but we mean no harm."

We all stepped inside the gates of the village. We followed him to his castle. Inside his house, was dusty looking and lots of cobwebs over lots of ancient looking clocks and vases. Cecil kept sneezing and had a stuffy nose. I turned to him. "Dust," was all he said before sneezing again.

We all gathered in a room where a fire blared in the fire place and Draco sat in a red arm chair. "Please, make yourselves comfortable." Fenrir then laid in front of the fireplace.

"Why is this place always so dark and gloomy?" Angel asked.

Draco turned his head to the fire. "This place was once a beautiful village. Not since the huge earth worn showed up. We call it Tremori. It feasts on the fear of my people, turning them into ugly monsters." He then faced Angel. "He has never been able to feast on me for I show it no fear. Nothing at all."

The ground rumbled a little at first, but then the rumble grew stronger and stronger.

"Is that Tremori!?" Cecil screamed.

"Yes," Draco jumped up from his chair. "It is."

"We must go battle it!" Ledia screamed over the rumble.

"What ever you do show it no fear." Draco said.

"It's very powerful," I said. "Please be careful."

Mingi pulled out her sword. "Ledia, Celes come with me! The rest of you stay behind."

Even against her will we all followed. The rumble then stopped and the monster burst out of the ground in the middle of the village. All the people hid in their houses. Mingi, Ledia, and Celes all lined up in front of Tremori. The monster was like a huge worm with spikes spread over it's body and it had no eyes. It had three rows of teeth. It was horrible looking.

Celes started first chatting and throwing a whit magic ball at the monster. It did create a wound, but it swung it's tail smacking Celes into a house. Before Ledia could do anything it smacked her also with it's tail. I hid behind Draco, not wanting to see the battle lost. Mingi started to slide her fore fingers up the blade concentrating. Tremori spit a fire ball at Mingi, but she seemed to be protected my a shield. She started to chant words and screamed, but the ruby didn't glow. Angered Mingi stabbed the sword into the dirt ground. "Come on Mingi you can remember!" She screamed to herself. With both hands on the swords handle she bowed her head low and began to chant again. Slow at first then faster. She then quickly stood up pointing the ruby towards Tremori, screaming the last words. "I call upon thee!"

Suddenly a dragon's spirit jumps out of the ruby like a mist then becoming whole. The dragon was much bigger then Tremori, I had to strain my neck back to look all the way up at it. The dragon let out a furious roar at Tremori, then took a big breath and breathed out fire, burning Tremori. Mingi still in her same position, Tremori fell dead and the dragon became a mist again and reentered the ruby. Mingi started to fall, but Angel caught her before she hit the ground.

The sky soon started to brighten and all the village people stepped out of their homes. Slowly they all changed back to their true forms, becoming human again. They all cheered with joy. We all smiled as well except Angel who was shaking Mingi. "Wake up!" Mingi! Wake up!" I heard her yell. We all gathered around her. Cecil carried Celes back. Ledia slowly walking as well.

Mingi then groaned and blinked her eyes open. "Did I get it?" She asked in a weak voice.

Angel smiled in relief. "You got it all right. You called upon the spirit of the dragon and saved the whole village."

Mingi received many gifts from the towns people for killing Tremori. Even though Mingi didn't want any of the gifts they all insisted that she except them.

Celes sat at the steps of the now beautiful castle that Draco owns. Her head rested in her arms she watches Mingi get all the glory. "What's wrong?" I asked sitting beside her.

"Well," she said sitting up. "Mingi's getting all the glory when me and Ledia fought also. We both got waked by that icky tail."

"She doesn't want the gifts, Celes." I leaned back. "She doesn't seem like the type that's used to being famous like you and Ledia. Also she did get weakened calling that dragon. I thought for sure she was dead."

"I know what you mean, Moonlight. At least we should still get some kind of glory."

"I think you're my hero, Celes." Cecil said hugging Celes.

"I think Mingi didn't do it for glory. I think she did it only because it was the right thing to do." I looked at Mingi. "She looks like someone who's used to glory. She also seems to not want the glory."

When I turned back to Cecil and Celes, they didn't seem to hear a word I said cause they were to busy hugging and talking to each other. I stood up and looked at Mingi being surrounded by people. "All right! Enough!" I heard Kannuki scream pushing everyone away from Mingi. He then started pushing Mingi to the village's gate. "I think it's time we leave."

"I agree," Angel said walking behind Kannuki and Mingi. Fenrir also followed. "We'll be waiting outside." Angel said turning to me then continued to follow behind.

Draco then walked up to me and bowed. "I am happy that you all had come here." He smiled. "If it wasn't for you all, our village never would have been cured. Thank you." He bowed again.

"You are very welcome." I said bowing.

We all then gathered outside the gates of Distoki. Draco came out to watch us all leave. He stood so firmly as we all left. We soon got pretty far and Kannuki and Mingi started arguing about something. I only looked back at Draco. What a strange man. He brings shivers up my spine. Hmm. I hope no to see him again.

We all then stopped. "Where to now?" Fenrir asked me.

I looked around. "We continue west to the next village."

"What village is that?" Angel asked.

"The village I ran away from, Sistoca." I said softly.

Fenrir then stepped before me. "Don't worry, Moonlight." He said with an encouraging smile. "I doubt any of us will let you go back to that horrible family."

I smiled a bit more happy. "Well then, shall we go?"

We all bowed to each other and continued our walk to Sistoca.
